2018 World Naked Bike Ride
Saturday, June 23, 2018
The Portland 2018 WNBR began with a gathering at Cathedral Park, under the St. Johns Bridge. This event was a political demonstration of love of our planet, support of positive body self image, self-sufficiency, and reduction of fossil fuel dependency.
Before the ride launched, cyclists enjoyed live music, body painting, and an atmosphere of joy and friendship. As the sun set on this amazing summer day the riders took to the streets. As usual, the crowd was enormous, so the ride got off to an agonizingly slow start but eventually was rolling through Northeast Portland neighborhoods. The riders were welcomed by gleeful neighborhood residents.
People lined the streets shoulder to shoulder cheering on the cyclists. Many of them stripped down, extending their role from spectator to participant. Thank you to all the neighbors who helped make this a great event! Much gratitude is also due to everyone to rode, skated, walked, skate boarded, and joined us with your mobility devices! We had great fun. We made important statements about the environment. We raised crucial political & social issues. We promoted acceptance of all of our beautiful bodies — Nature made no junk!
Once again Portland had the world’s largest WNBR. The were more than 10,000 participants. Thanks for helping to Keep Portland Weird!
