It would have been nice to once again enjoy a ride with ten thousand of our closest friends.  Unfortunately, this simply is not the time for that.  The 2020 World Naked Bike Ride was not going be held as a mass gathering this year due to the pandemic.  Riders were encouraged to celebrate WNBR Day by riding wherever they choose.  Small groups of well spaced riders are presumed to have popped up here and there.  In the early afternoon none were to be found around the waterfront and nearby downtown area.

One group of brave riders pedaled from southwest downtown Portland, across the Willamette River and up Hawthorne Boulevard to Cesar Chavez.  The riders then trekked west on Belmont for several blocks before cutting back to Hawthorne and heading downtown again.  The naked cyclists received supportive cheers from people on the street, on front porches, and at sidewalk cafes.  Passing drivers honked and shouted joyfully as well.

One of the riders in this group reported seeing a caravan of about 30 naked cyclists at Waterfront Park later in the afternoon.  The lead bike was Kamikaze Karl’s famous Tiki Bike, well known to naked bike ride after-party goers.

More photos of the 2020 World Naked Bike Ride protest will be posted here as they become available.  Because large gatherings were discouraged, your editor found it difficult to gather photos.

Keep-Portland-Weird.com can use your help collecting pictures this year.  Send us your pictures of the 2020 World Naked Bike Ride.  We’ll give you photo credit on the site, if you like.  Contact us for details of how to share photos.  In the mean time, enjoy browsing photos from past rides.

The WNBR is an annual demonstration against dependency on fossil fuels, so please don’t drive to wherever you intend to ride in protest.  The World Naked Bike Ride is not only a protest against oil consumption.  It is also about celebrating the power and individuality of the human body, and raising consciousness of a variety and social and political issues.  See our WNBR FAQ page for more about the ride, its history, and legality.

Black Lives Matter
2017 March For Justice in NE Portland

We are one month deep in an historic uprising against police brutality and murder.  Keep-Portland-Weird.com encourages riders to show their support for the crucial Black Lives Matter movement.  With over 1,000 demonstrations worldwide and many cities, including Portland, having protest for 30 consecutive days, this is truly a unique moment.

World Naked Bike Ride protesters have rallied around so many important causes over the years.  LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights issues, environmental concerns, political corruption, cyclist safety, body positive, and so many others.  But this year is different.  In our lifetimes, most of us have not seen the type of mass political action that is now happening.  The police are out of control, so make WNBR Day your day to show support.  Black Lives Matter!
