Portland, Oregon Signs

Perhaps the most famous sign in Portland is the “Portland Oregon” sign pictured below (Made in Oregon sign history).  It is north of the Burnside Bridge facing the waterfront downtown.

Visitors and locals alike delight at the sight of some of Portland’s signs. There is a high appreciation for historic signs and a good effort is made to preserve them.  Favorites below include Dante’s Keep Portland Weird sign, the amazing 2nd Avenue Records store, The Portland Theater showing Spamalot, and the famous, “Welcome to America’s Bicycle Capital”, which is now gone, because the City forced its removal in 2014.  And where else but Portland would you find a dog gym?

Art murals are found in good numbers in some sections of the city too.

Fortunately, billboards are fairly scarce. Often when they are spotted, they tend to be a bit more creative or progressive than found in many other urban areas. Recently a major bank portrayed a gay couple on one of theirs.  Not something you’ll find just anywhere.
