“Made In Oregon” Sign
The “Made in Oregon” sign is a famous Portland landmark with an interesting history. Originally the sign read “White Satin Sugar” inside an outline of the state of Oregon. In 1950 the sign was animated to show the state filling with sugar.
White Stag Sign
The sign was built by Ramsay Signs in 1940 above the White Stag Building and continued to advertise for the sugar company until 1959. At that time the lettering was changed to promote the apparel company.
Portland Oregon Sign
The city of Portland, following some controversy, took ownership of the sign in 2010. With help of an outside donation, the sign was changed to read “Portland Oregon”.
White Stag Building
The landmark sign remains on White Stag Building today. The historic building is located at 70 NW Couch Street in downtown Portland.
