Portland is a creative place.  The traditional art scene includes  the awesome Portland Art Museum, art galleries, and officially sanctioned public art.

On the less conventional side,  you’ll find really cool random art installations all over the city.

Below you will find some of pictures of urban art, graffiti, and unconventional art projects scattered around PDX.

This artwork is painted on a building housing one of Portland’s many weed stores.  It seems to be easier to find a store that dispenses weed than it is to find a liquor store in Portland.  A good sign!

Einstein is on record as opposing the prohibition of marijuana.

“No God” Graffiti
Speaking of Einstein, he too denied that there is a personal god.  This bit of PDX Graffiti is courtesy of a Portland atheist with a can of spray paint and a strong opinion on the subject of the existence of deities.

“The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.  No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.”
— Albert Einstein in a letter to philosopher Eric Gutkind, January 3, 1954

Horse Rings
Horse rings are found all over Portland, OR.  As this photo shows, Portlanders still use these rings to tie their horses to the curb.  This trend actually started as an urban art installation called The Portland Horse Project.
