What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data provided in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.  An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using Gravatar. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Photos and other media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.  Only share images for which you have intellectual property rights or permission to use.  Further information about photos appearing on this site, can be found on the About page.  There are many photographs on this website which were shot at World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) events.  The remainder of this section pertains to those events specifically, and more generally to other photos on this website.

The editor of this web site has great respect and admiration for the riders, volunteers, and supporters of the World Naked Bike Ride. Whether promoting respect for the environment & conservation, the naturist lifestyle, body acceptance, bicycling, non-sexual nude recreation or just fun times, it takes chutzpah to be part of this.  The WNBR is an annual protest against oil dependency and other societal and political issues.  In this context, nudity is not illegal in the state of Oregon because the state Supreme Court has ruled it is protected political speech.

Obviously this is a public event, and the riders, who were encouraged to be as “bare as you dare”, knew that they would likely be photographed.  Even so, for a variety of valid reasons some riders would rather not appear in published photos.

The subjects in the WNBR photos were asked for permission to use the pictures on this site whenever possible.  Most of the photos published here are of intentionally degraded resolution.  Anyone who wishes to have a photo removed should contact us.  Those appearing in the photos who would like to have a high resolution image for their own use may also reach out to us, but will need to be prepared to provide convincing evidence of their identity or provide another valid reason to be given an image.  Other conditions may apply because we believe, even in public people should be entitled to some privacy rights, data control, and the right to anonymity.
